jompsynopsis

I put out fires for a living. I’m damn good at it too. I’m known for my bravery, courage and daredevil stunts. Oh yeah, and the way I use my hose.

Firemen are celebrities in this town. My father, my brothers and all my cousins have put their lives on the line for the people of Brooklyn, NY. I’ve been in calendars and on TV. I have my pick of any woman I want. Anytime, anywhere. All I have to do is snap my fingers.

But Kennedy Stewart is the one that got away.

A shy girl from strict religious family, we had a hotter than hell fling. I was auctioned off for charity and her friends won me for her as a joke. A shy virgin should’ve been easy pickings for me. But I was the one who got swept off his feet.

We had a few weeks of bliss, even if we had to sneak around. I even said the ‘L’ word. The next thing I know she’s visiting relatives and won’t answer my calls. I swore off women – especially her. But she took a little surprise with her.

My baby.

Now she’s back in the little bundle of joy bears a startling resemblance to yours truly. I can’t be fooled and I can’t be denied. I want what’s mine.

“Holy shit…”
I turned to see what Lowe was looking at and my jaw dropped. She was here. In the bar.
Kennedy was here.
But she… didn’t look like Kennedy.
Gone was the innocent little beauty I’d fallen for, and then lost. This girl was confident. Wild. She oozed sex. From the corset top she wore to the frayed denim miniskirt and high heeled booties. Her hair was blown out and luxurious, like she was in a shampoo commercial. Her pouty lips were shiny and red. Her stunning eyes were lined with something dark and smokey.
She was hot. She was sex on wheels. And she was already getting way too much attention.
Her cousin Jamie smirked at me. I knew that she’d done this to spite me. To torture me.
To get even with me for being a damn jackass.
And it was working.
I growled and slammed my drink down. I strode across the bar and grabbed Kennedy’s arm. Then I dragged her right back outside.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?”
She squeaked as I released her. I stood there, panting as she looked at me in shock.
“Drew… I didn’t know you would be here.”
“Like hell you didn’t!”
“Jamie said I needed to get out. So, we’re out.”
“Go home, Kennedy! I don’t want you here!”
Her gorgeous eyes blinked at me. Then she blinked again. I stared at the solitary tear that rolled down her cheek.
I ran my hands through my hair.
“Kennedy… shit, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.”
She pulled her purse tight over her shoulder and shook her head.
“No, it’s fine. I should have realized Jamie was up to something. We’ll just… I’ll go somewhere else.”
I stared at her, my jaw clenching.
“You should go home. You’re going to start a damn riot! Why are you dressed like that? What are you trying to do to me?”
She squared her shoulders and tossed her hair over her shoulder.
“Nothing. I’m leaving. Like you said. Tell- tell Jamie I’ll see her at PJ’s.”
“PJ’s! Hell, no you are not going to PJ’s alone!”
She gave me a cold look.
“I don’t see that it’s any of your concern. I have a sitter. I’m an adult. I can go anywhere I damn please!”
I snarled at her, taking a step towards her.
“No, you can’t.”
“Yes. I can.”
She was trying to sound tough but she took a step backwards. I followed her until her back was against the wall. She gave me a nervous look. Good.
She should be nervous.
“No. You can’t.”
I was inches away from her. I could practically taste her lips. She always reminded me of strawberries and cream. I wanted to see if she still tasted like that.
I wanted to see if the fire was still burning between us.
That was a lie.
I knew it was.
Even after everything she’d done, I could not resist her. I’d tried to stay away. And I’d failed.
“Kennedy…”
She stared up at me as I pressed forward until our chests were touching. She let out a soft sound that was sexy as hell. I groaned as I wrapped my arms around her.
“What are you- doing?”
“I’m going to kiss you.”
“Why?”
I couldn’t help the bitter smile that settled on my lips.
“Because I cant help it. I can’t get you out of my head. That’s why.”
And then I stopped talking. I stopped thinking. I just felt.
I held her face as I took her mouth, punishing her for all those months I’d missed her. All that time she’d made me wait and wonder. All the pain I’d felt when she left me.
Well, she was back and she was mine.
I didn’t care anymore what she’d done. I’d just make sure she didn’t leave me again. I wouldn’t let her.
I was going to tie her to my damn bed if I had to. Permanently.
I softened my lips and lifted my head, staring down at those wide eyes of hers.
“Come on.”
I took her arm and propelled her down the street. Jamie came out as we turned the corner. She watched us walk past without saying a word. Kennedy had to practically run to keep up.
“Where are we going?”
“Bed.”
“What? I told you I didn’t want to go home Drew!”
Her voice was high and girlish. Shocked. I grinned. I was going to shock the hell out of her by dawn. Three times at least.
My bed. She’ll see you in the morning, Jamie.”
Jamie just smiled and waved goodbye. I knew she’d been up to something. She looked very pleased with herself. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself too.
Kennedy stumbled in those high heels she was wearing. I just picked her up and kept walking without missing a beat. My girl wasn’t used to wearing heels.
I grinned. That was one of the things I liked about her. Her beauty was all natural. I squeezed her, stealing a glance at her face. She was staring up at me in awe, looking like a sweet little sex kitten. Her chest was pushed up and out in that top, her creamy skin swelling above the low cut neckline.
Then again, this look did have it’s merits.

HERE’S A TASTE OF NITRO & TATUM

I sat next to him. I wasn’t sure why except that for the first time since I’d met him, he seemed like he needed someone. Even if it was just to sit with him. I stole a glance at his face. It was hard to find skin under all the dried blood. “I take it the other guy lost.”

He held my gaze for a long time before answering me. God, how I wondered what thoughts ran through Nitro’s mind. It felt like he either ran from them or got lost in them, but I wasn’t convinced he was often comfortable with them. Something we had in common. “That depends on your definition of winning.”

I didn’t need him to spell it out for me. And I didn’t push him for more. Instead, I walked into the bathroom. Locating a clean washer in the drawer, I wet it and walked back out to him. Standing in between his legs, I began the task of cleaning up his face.

This was something I knew well. My brother had often turned up on my doorstep in this state. Caring for him had always been my responsibility. How could it not be when his journey in life had been dictated by my own?

Nitro hissed when I accidentally pressed too hard on his cheek. His hand landed on mine and he halted my progress. “I can do this myself.”

I pulled my hand away from his face. “Yeah, you can, but I’m doing it, so just let me.”

“Always arguing with me,” he murmured, allowing me to go on.

I worked in silence and when I’d cleaned the blood from his face, I said, “I’m going to get some ice for your face. Wait here.”

I hurried down to the bar because I figured he had work to get back to and no time to waste. Kree loaded me up with ice and a towel to wrap it in. When I arrived back in his room, he was in the shower. He didn’t take longer than a few minutes and when he exited the bathroom wearing only a towel around his waist, I sucked in a breath at the magnificence of his body.

Nitro was a powerhouse of hard muscle that went hand-in-hand with his fearless warrior instincts. Standing before me, almost naked, his masculinity caught me off guard and a rush of desire hit me. My thoughts stalled and I momentarily forgot what I was doing. All I could focus on was the throbbing need deep in my core. A new hum filled my entire being, unlike anything I’d ever felt before.

Damn.

Shit.

No.

“You got ice?” His deep voice snapped me from my hypnosis.

“Ah… yeah,” I mumbled, shoving the towel with the ice in it at him, almost dropping it as I did so.

He frowned, his eyes searching mine. “You good, Vegas?”

Fuck, no, I wasn’t.

I was fucked.

Completely.

I nodded, swallowing hard. “I’m good.”

I was so far from good.

I wanted something I didn’t want to want.

I wanted him.

How the hell did my world turn in such a short space of time? What the fuck triggered that? Because whatever it was, I needed to un-trigger it.

He took the ice from me and turned to head back into the bathroom, grabbing clothes on the way. I was helpless to do anything but watch him walk away. My eyes stayed glued to the powerful muscles that built his back. And that ass. God, that ass. Even covered in a towel it was hard not to stare at.

I was so engrossed in his back and ass that he caught me off guard again when he dropped the towel and dressed without closing the bathroom door.

Fuck it, I was out. I yanked the bedroom door open and left as fast as I could. I needed to find a quiet corner and gather my thoughts. I needed to wipe everything that had just happened from my memory. Somehow, though, I suspected Nitro was not a man to ever be wiped from a woman’s memory.

The time came around nine o’clock when we’d all stuffed ourselves. Abby stood up from the table, a little wobbly. I swooped in, waiting for her to decide it was time to go.

“Come on. I’ll take you home,” I murmured, taking her by the elbow. She looked up at me.

“No,” she murmured.

“What?”

“No. I don’t want you to take me home. Now will you move?”

“Wait. Slow down.”

“I want somebody else, Max. Now move.”

“Who?”

“Anybody. It doesn’t matter. Just not you.” She shook me off—thank God we’d both been whispering, or practically, because it didn’t seem like anybody else noticed. I followed her out the door to the restaurant’s entrance.

“You can’t drive in this condition,” I warned her.

“Then I’ll get a cab. You can leave now.” She glared at me, her cheeks flushed.

“What?”

“You ruined it. You always ruin it.”

“How the hell did I ruin anything?”

She looked back into the restaurant, frowning. “I was having fun. People were talking to me, seeing me, liking me. And you had to take over like you always do.”

My car pulled up in front of us, and I took the keys from the valet. “Come on. I’ll drive you home, and we can talk about it on the way.” I practically threw her into the car before she could curse me out, then got in myself. Once I locked the doors from my side, she couldn’t open them.

“What the fuck Max!” She slapped the dashboard, then sank into her seat with a groan. “I was having fun. I was about to get laid, damn it!”

I bit my tongue until I calmed down. “By whom?”

“I don’t know! What did it matter? I was gonna get some for me, for once. And you won’t let me. I have to always be there for you, but you can never be there for me. You couldn’t just let me enjoy myself. No, you probably wanted to tell me all about your stupid fucking cheerleader girlfriend and ask me what you should do about her!” There was so much venom in her voice. She hated me.

I pulled over to the shoulder of the road. “What are you doing?” she asked. I unbuckled my belt without saying a word, then turned to her.

“You wanna know why I wanted to take you home?” I reached out, grabbing her by the shoulders. I pulled her to me before she could push me away and crushed my mouth against hers.

She only fought me for a split second before giving in. She sighed, relaxing, and I wrapped my arms around her. Her lips were so sweet, soft and yielding. When I slid my tongue between them, they opened to give me better access. I tasted the inside of her mouth, taking my time. This girl who had been my friend for so long, and she was right—I’d used her in a way. This girl who was always there for me without asking anything in return. This sexy, incredible girl.

The kiss deepened, with her tongue dancing alongside mine. She wrapped her arms around my neck, almost growling. Sounding hungry, desperate. I ran one of my hands over her body, listening to the way the breath caught in her throat. She whined a little, pressing against me, and when I made contact with her tits she moaned into my mouth.

By the time the kiss ended, we were both breathless. Her eyes were wide, stunned.

“That’s why,” I whispered, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“I don’t know where we’re headed but I know I’m not gonna let you go anywhere…”

I’m not going to go into great detail regarding the plot as the book description gives enough away.
As with previous works by this author,I got quickly into the story, not wanting to put it down until the end-the only issue I have is I would’ve liked a longer Epilogue,as I felt it slightly rushed in some of the detail-but that is because I loved Logan and Kyle’s story that much I didn’t want it to end!

With each book by this author,I feel they are getting stronger in their writing style, developing engaging and thoughtful stories that captivate the reader, making you care about the character’s you are reading about.

Congratulations James Lee Hard on another great story!

Author Interview

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I was always a storyteller and as I grew up I realised I could marry my ability with the English language to all the stories roaming around my head and get them down on paper. At about ten years of age I was producing little homemade “books” and at fourteen I even “launched” a local magazine! I didn’t think of writing as a viable career until my mid-twenties when I became a journalist but that didn’t provide enough of an outlet for my imagination, so I eventually decided to focus on writing books.

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

My earliest memory is of reading Robin Hood. I remember the description of him being dressed in “lincoln green” and wondering what sort of green that was! I was most troubled by this. I’d say I was about seven at the time. The book was a present from Santa Claus and it was my first book with no pictures. I can’t tell you how disgusted I was at Santa for bringing me a book with no pictures!

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Traditionally I love crime fiction and I always thought that would be what I would write so no-one is more surprised than me that I have written nothing to do with crime fiction! In recent years I have been reading a lot of romance and romantic suspense – which I really enjoy. I also love the classics – anything by Jane Austen, The Bronte sisters, Thomas Hardy etc. I adore beautifully written books so will often have a look at the writers listed for big international literary prizes and check out the books. This is how I came to read Atonement by Ian McEwan, one of my favourite books. I also love reading collections of poetry – Yeats, Kavanagh, Seamus Heaney.

What is your favourite book?

  1. Book? Do I have to pick just one? Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The Hunger Games trilogy and The Twilight series. Some recent favourites are Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan, Consolation & Conviction by Corinne Michaels and The Love By Numbers series by E.S. Carter.

You know I think we all have a favourite author. Who is your favourite author and why?

I love Ian McEwan for the richness of his prose and imagery. Kaylea Cross for her tight plots, thorough research and great sex scenes. Suzanne Collins for her brutal and unflinching subject matter. Thomas Hardy for his beautiful imagery, George R.R. Martin for his incredible world-building and Stieg Larsson for Lisbeth Salander. Mia Sheridan, Corinne Michaels, Kristen Ashley and E.S. Carter for their wonderful characters, great storylines and depth of character.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

I’d go back to London 1938 and tell, the then British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain just how Adolf Hitler and Nazism were going to pan out and that he needs to abandon appeasement and take action.

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Finding the time to write and being able to get into the right headspace is difficult – never the writing itself.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Oh Yes! I’m a dog nut! I adore my dogs! I’m still grieving over the loss of Miss Billie – a lab collie cross and a huge character – loved by all who met her. She died just before Christmas. I still miss my old girl Zara, an amazing German Shepherd who was in my life for over ten years.

What is your “to die for”, favorite food/foods to eat?

Oh this is easy! Fresh Atlantic lobster plucked from the pristine waters of the west of Ireland, served with lemon or garlic butter. New potatoes freshly dug from my dad’s garden along with his carrots and my mother’s scones and apple pies are unbeatable.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Not to be all “famous sport’s brand” about this but just do it! I’d also say don’t waste your precious time with traditional / legacy publishers. Indie publishing is the way to go – if you are a success then the legacy publishers will come looking for you and that’s the way to have them.

I hate football players, but I need the money. Jake is just as cocky and arrogant as the worst of them … but his touch sets me on fire.

I have to believe he’s different, that he won’t use me and break my heart. Because I can’t stop wanting him. I just hope I survive the ride.

Draw Playis a steamy standalone, full-length football sports romance novel. It’s only recommended for audiences 18+. No cheating. No cliffhangers. Guaranteed HEA.
