Author: Katheryn Kiden
Cover Designer: Katheryn Kiden of Indies InDesign
Release Date: October 17, 2016
For two years Shay Daniels has been stuck in the past—stuck in a pain so deeply overwhelming that she constantly feels as if she’s drowning. A chance meeting gives her her first breath of fresh air, but it could be her final downfall.
He’s stuck wondering what could have been—letting the pain of everything he’s lost simmer within his broken heart. She’s the first thing that has made him feel like himself again in years. He might be able to love her—he wants to—if he could only manage to live in the present.
Devastating pasts.
Uncertain futures.
Life is supposed to move forward, but what if all it does is revolve in a heartbreaking circle?
What if every step you take toward making yourself whole again only leads you closer to another beautiful catastrophe?
Shay
“Does he make you happy?”
Pursing my lips, I glare at him. “Do I look happy?”
“No,” he mutters, finally looking up at me. “You look sad. You might be throwin’ punches fueled by anger but your face looks sadder than hell. I’ve never dealt with you sad, Shay, I’m not sure I know how.”
“I’ve always been sad,” I whisper, admitting something I hate about myself.
“Okay … but it’s never been like this.”
I walk away without saying anything and make my way to an open mat. I flex my feet, stretching my ankles as he walks up silently beside me and slides his hands into a pair of punch mitts. After a few minutes of him questioning me between hits and me not answering, he shakes his head.
“What the hell did this guy do to you, Shay?” I grind my teeth, and when I don’t answer, he blocks my hit and smacks me upside the head with a mitt.
“I need you to hit me back,” I bite out. “That’s the only way this works for me.”
Irritation surfaces on his face. “And I need you to answer me.”
“He made me hopeful, okay? Jesus, fuck.” I step toward him, swinging again. “Now hit me back.”
“No.” He shakes his head, raising his hands for me again.
“Hit me back,” I scream, squeezing my fists tightly on either side of my head. My voice echoes off the walls around me and the desperation that fills it hits my ears. The gym goes silent around us, and for the first time today, I see another form of emotion in August’s face other than irritation—anger.
“Is that what you need?” he yells back, throwing his gear to the floor as a crowd of people begins to gather around us. “You need to be hit back? You want to be hurt? Too damn bad, Shay. You want to train? That’s one thing, but I’m not going to hit you so you can feel somethin’ other than the emotional pain you’re in right now.”
I lower my head, glaring at him. When he doesn’t budge, I storm toward the locker room. I slam the door back against the wall, thankful the room is currently empty.
Hauling back, I hit a locker, leaving a large dent in the door and scream out my frustration. August steps into the room behind me. I don’t even have to see him to know who it is—his presence fills the room. Turning, I stare as he kicks the door closed behind him and stands in silence—the only sound hitting my ears is my harsh breathing.
“I hate you,” I bite out.
“Liar.”

Nobody’s perfect.
We all have our faults.
GRACE DAWSON is desperate. Her father is dead and her mum is in prison for killing the man who attacked her. She is about to turn eighteen and homeless. Her options are limited. Life is bleak.
NOAH CARTER is twenty-four, a writer, and burdened by his family responsibilities. Forced to live in the same small town he grew up in, he knows it would be wrong to wish for a different life.
When Noah offers Grace a place to stay, it is an act of generosity that she has little choice but to accept. As they spend time together, their feelings grow beyond friendship and they become increasingly important parts of each other’s lives. But it’s not just their lives they have to think about and the challenges they face threaten to overwhelm their relationship. Both make mistakes but can they overcome their own faults to forgive each other’s?
FAULT is a story about love, loss, family and forgiveness. It’s a story about life.

Nicola Hudson is a British writer who discovered what was becoming known as New Adult fiction the same week she downloaded the Kindle app; within a week she was hooked into a one-clicking frenzy. After reading Hopeless by Colleen Hoover and Easy by Tammara Webber, the urge to write her own novel, but with a British slant, was overwhelming.
Her first novel, Curve, was published in 2013 and her second novel, Heart, was published a year later. Although romance is an important part of Curve and Heart, readers will know that Nicola also writes about serious, some may say dark, issues and their impact on young women. This theme continues in the final book of the Define series, Fault. She works full-time with teenagers and so it seemed like a natural step to write about them as well.
Nicola lives close to Birmingham, England with her husband and cat. When not writing, she is reading. When not reading, she is probably reading about reading, flicking between social media sites and Goodreads. Probably with a bar of chocolate at hand.

I step back from the bar, pleased to see that the rugby club’s fundraiser has attracted quite a turn out. Even through the dim overhead lights of the bar I can see the kaleidoscope of disco lights bouncing off an eclectic mix of costumes. There’s signage everywhere advertising the suicide prevention charity that the rugby club has chosen to sponsor this year. It’s a cause close to many of the students at Belfast University, given the strain a lot of people find themselves under, whether it’s from their own thoughts and expectations or those thrust on them by well-meaning friends and family members.
As Mark saunters by to put our names in to the karaoke MC I’m smacked across the face by the full effect of his costume. As the only bi-sexual member of the university rugby team, people might expect Mark to tone himself down. Not my best friend. He’s been this way since we met at 16. What you see is what you get and if you don’t like it – don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out. Tonight he looks like a cross between Freddie Mercury and the biker from YMCA. All leather and facial hair, but you have to appreciate the way the leather sculpts his shoulders and shows off the cut of his tight ass.
We’re only a couple of drinks into the night when I hear my name being called through the microphone. I’ve become a regular at these, not because of a Beyoncé-style voice or anything, just because I’ll always do what I can to support Mark and the boys, even if it means dressing up and making a fool out of myself.
I hear the familiar opening chords to “Just Like a Pill”, my standard karaoke fodder and ready myself with a few breaths. Without looking at the words, I use the music and the lyrics as a catharsis, one of the few times I allow myself to really feel, I know it adds to the sound of my voice but that’s not why I do it. It may seem strange, but up on stage I can allow myself to feel. To grieve. To hope and to wallow. Because I know after the song finishes, I step away from the mic and the stage. Everything closes back up again into its neat little box where I can contain, control and ignore its very existence.
Through the coda, I allow myself a moment to scan the room, seeing friendly, supportive and some all too knowing faces. I catch Mark and see him talking to someone who could be God’s gift to women if his face is as beautiful as his body. Dressed as Doctor Who, from the long beige trench coat to the blue suit and tatty red converse trainers. If he’s wearing the black-rimmed glasses, I may have a small orgasm on stage in front of 300 people.
When he turns away from Mark and locks eyes with me, I’m thankful I know this song the same way I can remember the hymns that were drummed into me in school, because it’s not the glasses that freezes the marrow in my bones and causes all the blood to rush from my face. It’s his face – a face I haven’t seen in over a decade, except in my nightmares.

Synopsis:
He was my brother’s best friend and seven years older than me.
He was a tatted up bad boy, indulging in one night stands like they were going out of style.
So why did I want to tear his clothes off every time we got within five feet of each other?
She was only eighteen years old when we met for the first time.
She was a good girl who avoided guys like me, but that didn’t stop me from picturing all the things I wanted to do to her-to do with her. She was too young
though, and my best friend’s baby sister. I couldn’t let things go where I wanted. I couldn’t touch her-couldn’t taint her with my darkness. I knew it
could never happen. It would never happen…
but it did.
Excerpt:
He’s Lucifer in the flesh with those deep brown eyes and dark-as-sin hair. My eyes move down, taking in the close-shaved beard hiding the contours of his
chiseled jawline, before continuing on to his full lips. I carefully study their masculine shape. I can still remember what those lips felt like on mine;
even though I’ve done everything I can to forget. I wish I could erase the memory of how he gripped the back of my hair tight in his fist and tugged me
forward until our lips were just a whisper of a breath apart.
“Is this what you want?” he’d asked. I could feel his warm breath on my mouth before he’d softly brushed his lips against mine. “Do you want to see how
close to the fire you can be without getting burned, little girl?”
I tried to pull away, incensed at being called little girl. I wasn’t a girl. I was a twenty-one- year-old woman; perfectly capable of knowing what I should
and shouldn’t be doing. I knew which heading kissing him fell under – insanity.
He was my brother’s best friend.
He was seven years older than me.
He was a pig when it came to casual sex; indulging in one-night stands like they were going out of style.
That alone should have been enough to repulse me, but for some odd reason, it didn’t. It only made me wonder what kind of things he would do to me. I was
smart enough to recognize that those three things combined were a recipe for disaster. The wreckage left over would be the pieces of my heart, and I
couldn’t put myself out there for him on the off chance that he wouldn’t break me. My heart was damaged enough already.
He’d held my head in place as he’d swooped in, taking my lips in a kiss so hot I felt like I was going to burn up in flames. His tongue had plundered my
mouth, punishing me for pulling away, for trying to resist him. He showed me who was in control with that kiss. He showed me I wouldn’t ever truly get away
from him, and I hated him for that. I hated him for ruining other guys for me; but most of all I hated him for what he’d said when he pulled away from me.
“Stick to kissing those boys at school. Men want a woman in their arms, not a little girl.” He looked at me with such disdain, I wanted the ground to open
up and swallow me whole. I wanted to disappear, go someplace where his painful words couldn’t hurt me anymore. Where my memory could be wiped clean of
Derek Santiago and his handsome face.
That kiss is still the hottest one I’ve ever had to this day, but I still despise him for the cruel words he callously threw at me. Those words tore me
apart and made me second guess myself. It took me a long time to realize what he said wasn’t motivated by me at all. It was the result of him despising
himself.
